Free influenza jabs for high-risk senior citizens at selected MOH clinics

SENIOR citizens with at least one chronic or comorbid condition are urged to take advantage of the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) free influenza vaccination programme, currently being offered at selected government health facilities across Malaysia.

In a statement today, the MOH said that 65.16 per cent of eligible senior citizens have already received their influenza jabs under the Senior Citizen Influenza Immunisation Programme, which began on 18 February.

“There are still 56,237 vaccination appointment slots available through the programme,” it said, adding that the service will continue until the end of August 2025.

The ministry confirmed that the influenza vaccine is being administered free of charge at 649 selected Health Clinics (Klinik Kesihatan or KK) nationwide.

“The public can make appointments via the MySejahtera application,” Bernama cited the statement saying. “Alternatively, they may contact the nearest District Health Office, visit the MOH official portal or social media pages, or walk in to the nearest KK for more information.”

Senior citizens without access to MySejahtera may register in person at participating clinics, subject to slot availability.

The MOH encouraged elderly patients who regularly attend follow-up treatments for chronic conditions to enquire about their eligibility for the free jab if it has not already been offered to them.

“Senior citizens with comorbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory illness, or hypertension should take this opportunity to secure protection ahead of the infection season,” the ministry said.

It added that influenza vaccination plays a key role in preventing severe complications and reducing hospital admissions among high-risk groups. - May 20, 2025
