THE free influenza vaccination programme for senior citizens aged 60 and above in Melaka officially kicked off today.
The Melaka State Health Department (JKN Melaka) announced that the vaccine is available to individuals with at least one chronic illness, such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease, or chronic lung disease.
This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), aims to protect high-risk groups from serious complications arising from influenza infections, including pneumonia, sepsis, and organ failure.
The influenza vaccine has been proven to be safe and effective in preventing infection and serious complications, as well as reducing hospital admissions and mortality rates among the elderly.
Seniors who meet the criteria can receive the free vaccination by making an appointment through the MySejahtera app.
Appointment slots will be based on the availability of vaccines at health clinics across the state, and those who fall under the high-risk group are encouraged to make an appointment as soon as possible due to the limited number of doses available.
JKN Melaka remains committed to ensuring the health and well-being of the people, particularly the elderly who are at higher risk of severe complications from influenza.
They strongly encourage eligible individuals to take advantage of this opportunity and get vaccinated to protect themselves and their loved ones from the potential dangers of influenza. – February 18, 2025
