Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Law Society (SLS) is serving the community through its Free Legal Advice Clinic initiative.
Its President, Datuk Mohamad Nizam Maduarin, said the SLS, as the sole regulatory body for the legal profession in the State, also plays a role in monitoring legal practice ethics and is actively involved in community-based programmes.
“One of the main corporate social responsibility initiatives is the Free Legal Advice Clinic, held every Saturday from 9am to 12pm at our secretariat on Level 6, MAA Tower,” he said after paying a courtesy call on the Head of State, Tun Musa Aman, Monday.

The visit aimed to brief Musa on SLS activities and to invite him to the Opening of the Legal Year Gala Dinner 2026, which will be held in January next year.
According to him, SLS is also actively involved in the Mobile Court programme organised by the judiciary, by setting up legal advisory counters and assisting with document verification in selected rural locations.
SLS was originally known as the Sabah Law Association since the 1960s before it was upgraded to a statutory body in 2017. It now operates under its own Advocates Ordinance.
As of January 2025, a total of 861 lawyers are registered under private legal practice in Sabah, while the total membership of SLS has reached 1,200.
