Freeing Najib may also benefit Pakatan, says Umno delegate

AN Umno delegate from Terengganu today said that Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s release from prison may also benefit Pakatan Harapan, reported the New Straits Times.

Setiu deputy division chief Mohd Iskandar Jaafar said the release of the former prime minister may actually serve as a “catalyst” for the revival of Barisan Nasional.

He said the time had come for a serious effort in accordance with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution while respecting the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“We must also respect the concept of federalism that separates the involvement of the legislative, executive and judiciary.

“Najib will be the catalyst for BN’s revival, while PH will also benefit from it,” he said when debating the presidential policy speech at the Umno general assembly today.

A delegate from Puteri Umno, Siti Nor Hasyyati Abd Rahman also repeated calls for Najib to be given justice.

“His freedom was not only for himself but also symbolised that truth would ultimately prevail over all challenges and trials.

“We pray for him to be given strength in facing this test and we hope that one day, he will be given the freedom he rightfully deserves,” she said.

Party leaders had repeatedly called for their former president to be pardoned and released from jail.

This included Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who stressed that the party would remain steadfast in fighting for Najib.

“We will not stop until our Bossku (Najib) receives justice,” he said in his policy speech yesterday. – August 24, 2024
