French superstar charged with multiple sexual assaults across Europe

  • French singer and actor Patrick Bruel has been handed preliminary charges of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment involving several women between 2008 and 2019.
  • Mr Bruel, aged 67, was released under strict judicial supervision after two days in police custody, following his appearance before investigative judges in Nanterre, Paris, and he denies all allegations.
  • The formal investigation specifically concerns allegations of rape in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 2008, attempted rape in Brussels in 2010, and sexual assault and harassment in Perpignan and Ajaccio in 2019.
  • As part of his release conditions, Mr Bruel is barred from leaving France, must surrender his passport, undergo psychological treatment, post bail of 500,000 euros, and is prohibited from contacting his accusers or entering massage parlours.
  • The allegations came to public attention through media reports, notably by Mediapart, prompting additional complaints, and the judicial investigation continues into other similar allegations spanning 2010 to 2019 in various French cities and Switzerland.
