Fresh hope for peace as US and Iran ‘set to hold talks in Islamabad’

  • Pakistan's foreign minister says Islamabad will soon host talks between the US and Iran.
  • Pakistan, which like Turkey borders Iran, has leveraged its close ties to Tehran and Washington to emerge as a key diplomatic channel in the conflict. Ankara and Cairo have also played a role.
  • “Pakistan is very happy that both Iran and the U.S. have expressed their confidence in Pakistan’s facilitation” of the talks, which will happen in the “coming days,” Pakistan's ⁠Foreign Minister ​Ishaq Dar said in a televised speech.
  • He did not say whether the talks would be direct or indirect.
  • It comes as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt discussed "possible ways ⁠to bring an early and permanent end to the ⁠war" ​in the ⁠Middle East on Sunday. The four ‌nations held joint talks to ‌seek a de-escalation ‌in the US Iran war in ⁠Islamabad.
