Fresh off the golf course together, Bret Baier swoons over Trump’s midterm convention speech

Fox News anchor Bret Baier praised President Donald Trump’s speech at the Republican midterm convention on Wednesday — just days after the two played golf together.

Speaking to a stadium crowd in Dallas, Trump highlighted his immigration crackdown and sweeping tariffs, denounced communism and “radical left Democrats” and promoted his recent rebranding of Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico.

He also pledged to send $5,000 to every American adult if Republicans retain control of Congress after the midterms.

Immediately afterward, Baier joined Fox News host Sean Hannity on air to offer his reaction — which was glowing.

“This is him energized. This is him feeding off this crowd,” Baier said. “This is, you know, he just loves this element. And let’s remind everybody, this guy is 80 years old. He just gives this barn-buster speech.”

“But the best line, I really think the best line was, ‘On election night we’re going to prove that America does not belong to those who hate it. America belongs to those who love it,’” Baier continued. “And that is the biggest cheer they got from this crowd.”

Just days earlier, over Labor Day weekend, the Fox News anchor teed off with Trump at his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

On Sunday, MAGA influencer Michael Solakiewicz posted a photo showing Trump and Baier side by side with Solakiewicz and others on the course.

“President Donald J Trump playing golf today at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster with Bret Baier of Fox News and many American Patriots,” Solakiewicz wrote. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Baier, who played on the golf team at DePauw University, has golfed with the Republican president before, telling Politico last year they’ve played together “a handful, maybe more than a handful, of times.”

In a July 2025 interview with The New Yorker, editor David Remnick asked Baier whether there was “some peril in that kind of relationship.”

“I think it’s a great question,” the Fox News host said.

“I answer it this way: tell me the journalist that won’t take the three-hour off-the-record ability to pick the brain of the commander-in-chief, the president who’s making these big decisions, in an environment that is more relaxed, that perhaps he’s more open to talking about different things,” he said. “Tell me that journalist who doesn’t take that.”
