In a spirited display of sportsmanship amidst electoral fervor, Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir's Pakatan Harapan (PH) team edged out Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's Perikatan Nasional (PN) side 3-2 in a friendly football match. The match, held at Taman Pekatra field in Nibong Tebal, not only showcased sporting prowess but also aimed to foster camaraderie ahead of the upcoming Sungai Bakap state by-election.

The event drew a crowd of local and central youth leaders from both political coalitions, with notable figures gracing the field alongside seasoned footballers. Akmal Nasrullah's team featured stars like former national striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and 2016 Puskas FIFA Award winner Mohd Faiz Subri, while Muhammad Sanusi's squad included ex-national footballer Baddrol Bakhtiar, among others.

Reflecting on the match's significance, Akmal Nasrullah highlighted its role in promoting a mature political discourse, free from hostility and extremism typically associated with electoral campaigns. "While we may be opponents in the election arena, today's match demonstrates our ability to come together and engage positively before returning to the campaign trail tonight," he remarked to reporters.

Muhammad Sanusi echoed this sentiment, viewing the football match as a precursor to future collaborations and a means to alleviate the competitive tensions of the ongoing campaign. The upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election, scheduled for July 6, will witness a direct contest between PH's Dr. Joohari Ariffin and PN's Abidin Ismail following the unfortunate passing of the incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff, in May.

The friendly atmosphere of the match not only entertained spectators but also symbolized a break from traditional political rivalries, emphasizing shared interests beyond party lines. Leaders such as PKR vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Selangor PH chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Negeri Sembilan PH chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun were present, underscoring the event's importance in promoting unity amidst electoral competition.

As the campaign intensifies towards polling day, both sides are expected to leverage the goodwill generated from the match, emphasizing mutual respect and collaborative spirit in their respective bids for voter support. The electoral landscape in Sungai Bakap remains closely contested, with each candidate vying to uphold their party's mandate in the state assembly.
