Frogs are delicious, to many humans. Especially frogs legs... They are cooked in various styles.
Whether fried, steamed, stewed or made into soup, they are a relish to those who devour them.
Most of the humankind do consume frog legs. Exceptions to these are those of the Jewish, Islamic faiths and those who are vegetarians. Even within the Islamic faith, some adherents of the Maliki school, prevalent in Africa, do allow the eating of certain species of frogs.
Live frogs used to be sold at the various wet markets and were "processed" upon being sold. Its enough to say that the butchering is not exactly a sight to enjoy. The less said is the better.
Its common for frogs to be called "paddy chicken" when served at restaurants. The taste is said to be between chicken and fish. Diners have nothing but praise for delicious frog legs.
However, it is totally different when it comes to "frogs" of the human variety who are referred to with the moniker YB or in full, "Yang Berhormat".
These YB frogs have since GE14 acquired a new ability to hop far and wide to different swamps and paddy fields than those which they originated from. When these frogs hopped to different fields they create instability and imbalance in the status quo. They disturb the ecosystem of the country. It is not surprising as these frogs hopped to fields populated by other species eg bull-frog (lots of Bull), grass frogs, mangrove frogs, long-legged frogs (hopping champions), giant frogs, and last but not least the repulsive-looking giant toads. The new fields which they hopped to have to provide for an increased and more varied food resources for these additional frogs. To make things worse, they are really greedy and prolific eaters.
After May 2018, and especially in February 2020, there was an exponential increase in the population of these YB frogs and toads. Their motives of hopping to different fields and swamps were either to escape from the hunters that were after them, or the enjoy better food at different fields, or to group together with other similar frogs.
When this happens, even the Islamic and Vegetarian YB frogs have no qualms about hopping.
If these frogs only hop individually to a different field, the impact is less than their hopping as a group. It has been seen that their collective hopping has caused the collapse of a democratically-elected government and caused instability and chaos to the country. And these frogs croaked that they hopped collectively "to protect the rakyat's interests" when it is actually clear that it is their own self-interests that occupy their small brains.
Could the passing of the anti-hopping law prevent frog-hopping is yet untested. The law is only effective to deter and penalise individual frogs. But there's strength in numbers and totally kosher when blocks of frogs collectively hop to other swamps. The net effect is still a disregarding of the electorate and instability to the country.
Sometimes we wish that we can be like the butchers of those wet markets and chop off the legs of these YB frogs to stop them from hopping.
It is best not to hold your breath and wait for the results of GE15.
It is an almost foregone conclusion that GE15 will probably see some collective hopping of some frog species to join frogs of other species and become bosom buddies.
These peninsular frogs need to entice the participation of a very significant and influential species called the Borneo frog to join them in the same field.
These very significant Borneo frogs must be enticed with attractive offers to entice them not to hop to the alternative swamp which is populated by the Hope frogs.
Which swamp will prevail after GE15 is anybody's guess.
