China's aviation prowess took center stage as the sleek ARJ21 and C919 commercial aircraft dazzled spectators during their showcase at Malaysia's Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Selangor state. This event marked the culmination of an impressive five-country tour across Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
Dignitaries gracing the occasion included Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Liew Chin Tong, alongside representatives from local investment promotion bodies and aviation sectors.
Amidst captivating demonstration flights and static displays, the mastermind behind these cutting-edge aircraft, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), orchestrated a series of compelling product presentations aimed at enticing potential customers.
The tour's primary objective was to affirm the adaptability of these aircraft to the airports and routes within the aforementioned countries, evaluate ground service equipment compatibility, assess special flight procedure adaptability, and showcase the economic viability of these routes. COMAC emphasized that these demonstration flights serve as a cornerstone for future market expansion in Southeast Asia.
The ARJ21 regional aircraft, boasting a capacity of 78-97 passengers and a flight range spanning 2,225-3,700 kilometers, represents a versatile option for regional travel. Meanwhile, the C919 jetliner, accommodating 158-192 passengers and offering an impressive range of 4,075-5,555 kilometers, presents a formidable contender in the commercial aviation arena.
A significant milestone was achieved on May 28, 2023, when the C919 completed its inaugural commercial flight successfully. Since then, China Eastern Airlines, the launch customer, has welcomed five C919 aircraft into its fleet, operating seamlessly on routes such as Shanghai-Beijing and Shanghai-Chengdu. COMAC proudly reported that these aircraft have safely transported over 140,000 passengers to date.
The photographs captured during the event on March 13, 2024, depict the magnificence of the C919 commercial aircraft proudly displayed against the backdrop of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook's poised presence alongside the aircraft underscored the significance of this milestone moment, symbolizing the burgeoning partnership between China's aviation industry and Malaysia's aviation ambitions.
