Quill Group Secures Exclusive Rights for Hongqi Malaysia: China’s Rolls-Royce Enters the Ultra-Luxury EV Segment

The Malaysian ultra-luxury automotive landscape is set for a major transformation following the announcement that Quill Group has been appointed as the exclusive distributor for Hongqi. Often dubbed “China’s Rolls-Royce,” the Chinese luxury automotive brand officially marked its entry into the Malaysian market by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Quill Group on April 22, 2026.

Late last year, Quill’s relationship with Rolls-Royce ended abruptly and BMW Group’s ultra luxury arm has yet to relaunch its business publicly in Malaysia.

Exclusive Partnership and Distribution Details

Quill Group’s appointment grants them extensive rights as the official importer and distributor for both Completely Built-Up (CBU) and Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) units across Malaysia.

  • Network Management: Quill will oversee the appointment of authorized dealerships nationwide.
  • After-Sales Support: The group is committed to providing full after-sales support and ensuring comprehensive parts availability for all Hongqi vehicles.

Hongqi Malaysia Launch and Market Positioning

The official market debut for the Hongqi brand in Malaysia is targeted for mid-2026.

The brand aims to fill a significant gap in the ultra-luxury and premium Electric Vehicle (EV) segments, a space historically dominated by European manufacturers. The initial focus for the Malaysian market will be on premium SUVs and luxury EVs. Hongqi plans to leverage its strong association with state leadership and high-end technology to reinforce its premium positioning.

It should be noted that the Honqi vehicles that are being brought into Malaysia are not part of the Global Sunflower sub-brand. Those are not quite like one-off Rolls-Royce vehicles and more like pandas – money is not the issue, instead you need to be favoured and of a special political class to even be considered to be a customer. The Hongqi vehicles that are being brought in are the more mass market, electrified newer line-up and these are available for purchase by members of the public.
