In the aftermath of the controversial sock saga, Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh, a Russian-trained medical practitioner, finds himself caught in another whirlwind, this time swirling around duit raya distributed to cops in Jasin, Melaka. Is this mere coincidence or the hand of fate at work?

While RM20 might seem insignificant, a misstep remains a misstep, especially when it unfolds so publicly.

One cannot help but wonder if the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, will allow Akmal's ill-conceived publicity stunt to tarnish the esteemed reputation of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Surely, the funds will be promptly returned to Dr. Akmal, as it's inconceivable that the top cop would permit such defiance of his directive issued just last February.

Should the actions of the UMNO Youth chief be condoned, it would set a perilous precedent, suggesting that bribery of law enforcement officials can be openly flaunted.

Akmal's defence that the funds originated from his clinic's profits hardly justifies his actions. If he can justify this, what's to stop others from justifying similar actions in the future?

The notion of boycotting his clinic may start to gain traction. Considering his call for a boycott and the subsequent backlash against KK Super Mart, one can't help but wonder if Akmal will soon find himself facing the consequences of his own actions.

Would he not feel the sting if his clinic becomes the target of a relentless boycott, with demands for its closure on the grounds that its profits are being used to flout the IGP's directives?

It's a classic case of karma catching up, and the good doctor might soon find himself swallowing his own bitter medicine.

Moreover, Akmal's actions, along with those of other self-proclaimed vigilantes, seem to follow a pattern of stoking racial and religious tensions, pitting communities against each other over trivial matters like bak kut teh, vernacular schools, and even proposed UNESCO heritage statuses.

Thankfully, the majority of Malaysians have moved past such divisive tactics, understanding that events like May 13 were merely political clashes fueled by historical grievances and not reflective of the true spirit of unity among Malaysians.

In a welcome development, Chinese politicians are now taking cues from their Malay counterparts within the coalition, opting for conciliatory gestures and public apologies when necessary.

It is imperative that Dr. Akmal realizes the detrimental impact of his actions on the government's efforts to rejuvenate the economy. By driving away foreign investors and jeopardizing jobs, particularly among the Malay/Bumiputera community, his misguided crusade against KK Super Mart threatens to undermine the progress of the nation.
