It looks like outspoken Umno chieftain Puad Zarkashi is not done with his stinging tirade against beleaguered opposition party Bersatu; this is following his recent jibe against its president Muhyiddin Yassin on social media.

In a recent Facebook post, the former Batu Pahat MP had portrayed the Umno splinter party as a kapal senget (a tilting ship) that is about to sink anytime!

He had also said mockingly that instead of saving Malaysia the party should actually save itself first!

Taking a swipe at the opposition party, Puad went on to depict it as one that was in denial and clearly in disarray - and on the way down; this was after six of its MPs had declared their support for PM Anwar Ibrahim.

Puad, the Johor state assembly speaker added that Bersatu was literally surviving by clinging on to PAS; furthermore, according to him, unlike the Islamist party, Bersatu did not rule any states - even Sabah slipped from its grasp after one of its leaders had set up GRS!

Not mincing words Puad claimed that Bersatu was actually formed to kill off Umno but it has failed miserably; so it's now time for Umno to turn the tables and “sink” Bersatu instead.

The Umno supreme council member also likened Bersatu to another of its former splinter parties Semangat 46 in the eighties (under Tengku Razeleigh Hamzah) which eventually returned to Umno’s fold.

He further stressed that now was the right time for the party helmed by Muhyiddin Yassin to be eliminated as it seemed to be almost in shambles.

To make matters worse, Puad, a staunch Najib Razak loyalist, added that Bersatu doesn't have a “poster boy”, and as such it cannot sustain itself in the political world and will continue to rot!

The Rengit state assemblyman then went on to claim that Bersatu had aspired to take over the role of Umno but ended up shortchanging the Malays and the rakyat.

In fact, according to him, under its former leaders Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin, the fate of the Malays and Islam had deteriorated further.

Puad, a former deputy education minister during Najib’s reign, also alleged that when Bersatu was in power they had neglected the Malay agenda and because of this it’s only right that the Malays now withdraw their support and ditched the party.

The irrepressible Puad also appeared unable to resist taking a jab at Bersatu and its coalition partners PAS for wearing a white ribbon on their sleeves in parliament recently; this had prompted him to quip sarcastically that instead of a “sign of protest” against parliament speaker Johari Abdul, it was more fitting to be a sign of “regret” for all those supporting the opposition party.

Nevertheless, the controversial Umno strongman seemed to have saved his best for the last when he recalled how last month Bersatu’s Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin had comically labelled the Madani government “a cow with its stomach full!”

As if in a tit-for-tat, Puad retorted that Bersatu, given its mounting woes, was worse than that, as it now resembled a “a hungry cow that was getting skinnier" - and now standing on its last legs!
