KUALA LUMPUR – Four Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel seriously injured in last week's fatal crash, which killed nine in Teluk Intan, are now in stable condition, police confirmed.

Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said the four, who are receiving treatment at the ICUs of Teluk Intan Hospital and Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, have shown positive progress and are now conscious and responsive.

Nine FRU members were killed and nine others injured when their truck collided with a lorry carrying gravel along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam on May 13. The unit had been returning to their base in Sungai Senam, Ipoh.

"Previously, (the four officers) were critical, but we’re grateful for the latest updates from the hospitals showing they are improving.

“We pray for their continued recovery," he told reporters today after a monthly police gathering in Teluk Intan, Bernama reported.

Bakri said the Royal Malaysia Police continues to monitor the situation closely, offering daily support to the victims’ families. He also thanked the state government, corporate bodies and local residents for their assistance and support.

Meanwhile, the Perak government is expected to announce further aid for the next of kin and injured personnel. State executive councillor Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said an official announcement will follow after the state exco meeting.

“Emergency aid of RM1,000 was already disbursed via the Social Welfare Department. The Menteri Besar will detail additional assistance soon,” she said. – May 22, 2025
