SANDAKAN: A 50-year-old roadside fruit seller was killed after a logging truck crashed into her stall along Jalan Labuk, Batu 27, here, Wednesday.
The woman was taken to Ulu Dusun Health Clinic for treatment but was pronounced dead at about 8.30am.
The accident, involving two lorries and a car, also left a 31-year-old woman seriously injured after she was trapped inside a 10-tonne cargo lorry.
Three others, including both lorry drivers and a three-year-old girl travelling in the cargo lorry, escaped unhurt.
Sandakan District Police Chief ACP George Abd Rakman said the fruit seller sustained injuries in the crash and was rushed to the clinic.
“However, the victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the clinic,” he said when contacted.
He said the cause of the accident was still under investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The crash caused traffic congestion for several hours as workers cleared logs scattered across the road before traffic could resume.
