
SIPITANG: The fruit season is eagerly awaited by fruit lovers every beginning of the year especially in this district as it is famous for local fruit production. However, enjoying these fruits is not like what it used to be and chances are you may be able to afford them.
Daily Express random survey found that the fruit stalls located opposite the Mara office building and agriculture office, were piled with various fruits on Thursday (5-1-2023), namely rambutan, tarap, cempedak, bambangan, mangosteen, tampui and rambai were among the fruits sold with a few durians.
It was found that cempedak was sold at RM10 per kg, tarap RM12 per kg, rambutan R12 per kg, bambangan RM15 each and tampui RM6 per kg.
A vendor, Masni Baba, 62, from Kg Pantain, Sindumin said the fruit harvested was not much this year and most were from Mesapol and Melamam. Durian was not so many.
Sipitang’s Assistant Agricultural Officer, Francis Angkui, said the fruit season in this area was no longer regular.
In the villages, fruit production was not even simultaneous as they fruit in stages and in small quantities.
