With the playful tagline, “One Chef. One Tyrant. One Royal Mess”, this time travel series follows the story of world-class chef Yeon Ji-young (played by Yoona), who is mysteriously transported from a French culinary competition to the royal palace of the tyrant King Yi Heon (played by Lee Chae-min). Will Ji-young survive palace politics and return to the safety of her world?
Based on the Korean web novel Surviving as Yeonsan-gun’s Chef by Park Kook-jae, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is directed by Jang Tae-yoo.
Reflecting on the experience of playing a chef in the show, Yoona said in an interview (via Naver), “I met with real chefs for a duration of about 3 months. I learned everything from handling cooking utensils to the cooking process, and practised cooking in a variety of ways… As a result, I gained more confidence in cooking, and while portraying Yeon Ji Young, I thought to myself, ‘I can’t believe I can do this.'”
