
Kota Kinabalu: Gabrielle Marygrace Yong Poquita made a great start to 2024 with a victory at the Kinabalu Yacht Club’s (KYC) Ship’s Bell Trophy sailing competition held at Tanjung Aru on January 1.
She and crew member Ahmad Yusoff pipped defending champion Chia Ching Byn with her crew Datuk Christopher Chin to take the title in the season opening International 470 class race.
In third place was last year’s runners-up Melissa Yong with Syazni Thaqif as her crew.
A total of 32 sailors took part in the annual race that first started in 1961 and all the prizes were presented by the club’s vice commodore Allan Koay Kah Seng.
