Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Youth Vice-Chief Shahrun Nidzam Sharoom urged the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership to field more young candidates in the coming elections.
Shahrun said among the promising young candidates is Kota Marudu PBS Central Youth Chief Christopher Mandut.
“Christopher is seen as friendly and socialises often with the local community. He is no stranger to the political arena in Sabah and Kota Marudu in particular.
“Trained by the PBS President, Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, who is also the incumbent Kota Marudu MP, Christopher is not only qualified and ready and capable of giving victory to GRS-BN in Kota Marudu,” he said in a statement.
Shahrun stressed that GRS should continue to highlight young candidates because it was proven they are more favourable to the people in Sabah.
“In the last State Election, young GRS-BN candidates were able to win their seats to help formed the GRS-BN government.
“Names such as Jonnybone Kurum (Telupid), who is GRS Youth Chief, Datuk Fairuz Renddan (Pintasan) who was recently appointed Assistant Minister of Special Functions and Coordination and Andi Suryady (Tanjung Batu), who is Youth and Sports Assistant Minister are hard evidence of this.
“As youths made a substantial number of the voters, they are more likely to look at the candidates rather than the party logo because most of them are not members of any political party,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shahrun said Parti Warisan Sabah’s (Warisan) recent jab at Maximus was seen as a desperate move after the invitation to cooperate was rejected by PBS.
