Chinese automotive giant GAC has unveiled its latest EV model in China, known as the GAC Aion UT. Alongside both the Aion Y Plus and S Plus EVs, the new Aion UT EV hatch will be the brand’s third global model, featuring pretty decent specs and a relatively affordable price tag.

Starting with the visuals, the new Aion UT gets a pretty conventional hatch bodystyle, albeit featuring some interesting design cues derived from its larger siblings. Some key design takeaways include the unique, teardrop-shaped LED headlights with D-shaped DRLs, a grill-less front look with four-eyed LED fog lamps, C-shaped LED taillights, a contrasting floating roof design, and many more.

Depending on the trim levels, rolling stocks for the Aion UT range from 16 to 17 inches. Dimension-wise, this EV hatch spans 4,270 MM long, 1,850 MM wide, 1,575 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,750 MM, thus putting it on par with the likes of the MG 4 and BYD Dolphin.

On-board equipment is also not too shabby for the Aion UT, as the EV hatch gets a pretty extensive cabin amenities list. Key highlights include a 14.6-inch central infotainment display, a smaller 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel, two to six speakers, a wireless charging pad, a multi-colour ambient lighting system, a full panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities, to name a few.

Thanks to its sizable footprint, the Aion UT gets a pretty spacious cabin, with the front two seats that can be flat-folded to transform your car into a mobile lounge. Practicality is also quite decent for the Aion UT, as its boot space measures 440 litres as standard.

What’s also impressive is the Aion UT’s powertrain specs, as the EV hatch is exclusively powered by a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor rated at 134 HP (100 kW), which is good enough for a V-max of 150 KM/H. According to CarNewsChina, our battery options will be available for the Aion UT, namely 34.868 kWh, 44.257 kWh, 44.12 kWh, or 44.133 kWh.

Depending on the battery options, GAC claims the Aion UT boasts a maximum CLTC range of up to 420 KM, with an impressive WLTC comprehensive power consumption of 11.4-kWh per 100 KM. Although no exact figures were given, GAC also claims the Aion UT can be charged from 30-80% in just 24 minutes.

The all-new GAC Aion UT is now available for sale in its native China, with prices ranging from CNY 69,800 to CNY 101,800 (RM42,760 to RM62,364), depending on trim levels and battery options. Given that the Aion UT is a global model, we can expect this EV hatch to make its landfall into overseas markets (ours included) sooner or later.
