Today, in this era where technology has taken over, gadgets has become something that everyone needs, regardless of age. However, as a new mom, it’s a dilemma for me. This is because, surrounded by gadgets and technology, my 6 month old baby has her eyes on every gadgets she sees and that worries me.
My kind of growing up was to hit the ground and play. Getting dirty was never a concern for my generation. I strongly believe that is what made my generation more open minded and very actively involved.
For me, I would not want to bring my baby up in an environment where she needs a gadget to fall asleep, to eat or simply to make her listen to me. If she needs entertainment, there are a whole range of entertainment outside the house that I would prefer. I would love to bring her to the parks, for swimming or any other outdoor activities, to libraries, for long drives, for holidays, and many more.
I certainly would not condemn or say anything bad about parents who introduced gadgets to their children at a very young age. That is their parenting style, which maybe works better for them.
Gadgets, in my opinion, would make an individual very lost in the real world. This screen based experience will make an individual addicted to it, which then will make them socially inactive. Though gadgets is good, where we can always have access to information. But, starting a child early on will discourage them to open up in the real world. They would only want to live in that screen, and avoid face to face interaction.
Gadgets are really useful and plays an important role in our everyday life.
But, in my opinion, my dilemma of introducing gadgets or not to my child is solved. I hope other parents can find their dilemma resolution too. In the end, your parenting style depends solely on you!
