Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of National Highway projects spanning 4,335 km in Punjab and 3,332 km across Delhi and Haryana, stressing the need for faster execution, better quality standards and advance monsoon preparedness.
The review was conducted on the basis of inputs received through media and social media platforms regarding the condition, quality and maintenance of highway stretches in the region.
During the meeting, Gadkari directed officials and contractors to accelerate on-ground execution of projects and ensure timely completion of works. He stressed the importance of stronger coordination among implementing agencies and adherence to project timelines.
Emphasising quality and durability, the minister instructed agencies to adopt modern construction technologies and best engineering practices to improve the long-term performance of National Highways. He also underlined the need to enhance riding quality and provide seamless connectivity across key highway corridors in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana to ensure safer and smoother travel for commuters.
Gadkari further called for greater accountability in maintenance operations and directed officials to carry out regular inspections to identify and address deficiencies at the earliest.
With the monsoon season approaching, the minister also reviewed preparedness measures for all project stretches. He instructed agencies to strengthen drainage systems, undertake slope protection measures and put in place swift response mechanisms to minimise disruptions during heavy rains.
Gadkari asked officials to remain vigilant against waterlogging, erosions and other weather-related challenges to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement and commuter safety during the monsoon season.
