Kota Kinabalu: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Youth has strongly condemned remarks by Philippine Senator Robin Padilla calling for the revival of the Philippines’ claim over Sabah.

Its acting Youth chief, Azrul Ibrahim (pic), said the statement was irresponsible and contradicted principles of sovereignty and international law.

Azrul stressed that Sabah is a sovereign part of Malaysia and its status cannot be questioned by any party.

He said attempts to link Sabah to oil and energy resources as justification for reviving what he described as an outdated claim were baseless and diverted attention from internal issues elsewhere.

Azrul also urged the Foreign Ministry to issue a formal protest while calling on the Federal Government to continue monitoring the matter to safeguard national sovereignty, and encouraged Sabahans to remain calm and united.
