In the past 24 hours or so, a lot of reports about the Z Fold7’s thinness came to light. It’s actually quite intriguing, as there was another brand that kept saying their book-style foldable phone is thinner. When it comes to the real-life measurements, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is actually the thinnest.
The first report came out of Weibo, where they used a vernier dial caliper with torque to ensure the force applied to obtain the measurement is consistent and not artificially squishing/crushing the device to get a skewed measurement.
PhoneArt (formerly known as Ice Universe) posted a few tweets regarding the thinness of these book-style foldable devices. By placing something flat between the two devices and placing a ping pong ball on top, the ball will roll to whichever is the lowest in elevation – thanks to gravity.
I compared the thickness of all the latest large foldable phones I have—Xiaomi MIX Fold4, OPPO Find N5, vivo X Fold5, Honor Magic V5, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7—using universal gravitation. Which one is the thinnest? Someone’s lying. pic.twitter.com/uhsdgSG1xg
There were doubters of course, so there is another angle showing the same thing.
There is no accurate measuring tool, but we can still draw a rigorous conclusion: Galaxy Z Fold7 is the thinnest folding mobile phone in the world.
I switched the positions of two mobile phones during the test, and the results remained the same, which showed that the factors of… pic.twitter.com/irlNgKOtH0
To further solidify this fact, he also used a vernier caliper to measure the thinness of the two book-style foldable devices – once again, the Z Fold7 is thinner.
It seems that I can only take out my ruler, helpless. People only believe in numbers, but not in the laws of physics.
But I still want to wait until the micrometer arrives to measure again, because that is more accurate. pic.twitter.com/ZYRJf5wpGh
But that’s not all – our friend also did this test himself, and got the same result.
This then also led to Ice Universe posting this tweet.

It’s surprising how fast the smear campaign backfired as HONOR was posting this kind of images on their official accounts across different social media for the past week.
This is one of the prime examples of why we do our own tests instead of just repeating what the company claims. Reality truly is often stranger than the claims that the companies put out.
On another note, if you want to check out our current published tests of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, then watch the video below. The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy has been tuned to work very well for this thin foldable and able to maintain high frame rates for a long time – which is truly surprising compared to other thin foldables that we’ve tried previously.
