KENINGAU: Police have arrested five teenage boys suspected of raping a 12-year-4-month-old primary school girl at an unnumbered house in a village here on Monday afternoon.
Keningau District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the complainant had gone to look for his/her daughter around 6pm on Monday and was informed that the victim was at a relative’s house with several males.
He said the complainant went to the house and found the males fleeing the scene before they were called back.
“Following a confrontation, one of them known as Alvin (not his real name) admitted to having intercourse with the victim. Another known as Cano (not his real name), along with two of his friends, admitted to groping several parts of the victim’s body. Another known as Mawie (not his real name) also had intercourse with her,” said Yampil.
He said the victim is the second of two siblings and attends a primary school nearby. Yampil said the complainant told police the victim had attended a family wedding reception at a village.
He said preliminary investigations showed the victim and her friend had gone to an aunt’s house (the location of the incident) to bathe and rest after helping out at the wedding reception. Unbeknownst to them, they had been followed by the five suspects.
According to the victim’s statement, the five suspects forced the victim’s friend to return to the wedding reception, leaving the victim alone with them at the house before the alleged rape took place.
“The incident occurred inside an empty room on the ground floor of the house, located in a village within a vegetable-farming area, during the absence of the aunt (the house owner),” said Yampil.
Further investigation revealed that the victim and the five suspects were not under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances when the incident occurred.
