Violent action sequences and a slew of menacing yet vulnerable characters out for revenge summed up the thrilling finale of the Disney Plus Hotstar K-Drama Gangnam B-Side. Curious to know if Gil-ho survives his ordeal or if Dong-woo is able to rescue his daughter from the world of drugs? Here are all the details about the K-drama Gangnam B-Side, from the plot to the ending, explained.
Written by Jo Won-gyu, the script takes inspiration from the true events surrounding the Burning Sun controversy. The story follows a police officer and a pimp struggling to expose a drug racket in the world of vice, lust and corruption in Gangnam, Seoul.
Gangnam B-Side is helmed by Park Noo-ri, who has previously directed the 2019 Ryu Jun-yeol starrer Korean movie Money. One of the highest-rated K-dramas of 2024, the show also enjoyed a special screening in the On Screen section of the 29th Busan International Film Festival. Additionally, the series topped the streamer’s TV show category in multiple countries including Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong after its release.
In an interview with TheKoreaTimes, lead actor Ji Chang-wook shared that the overwhelming global popularity of Gangnam B-Side was “unexpected”. He added, “Maybe people are drawn to the story because it reflects real-world issues.”

Gangnam B-Side K-drama ending explained: Is Dong-woo able to save his daughter?
The makers start off the finale of the action thriller K-drama by establishing that Dong-woo is ready to sacrifice himself to bring his daughter out of the world of prostitution.
In the penultimate episode, Dong-woo’s daughter Ye-seo discovers the video recorded by Jae-hee, which caused the latter’s death. The contents of the video reveal powerful assemblymen of Korea conducting drug tests on young sex workers and then discarding their dead bodies like garbage. Vowing to expose them all and take revenge for her best friend Jae-hee’s death, Ye-seo joins the prostitution industry.
In the last episode, Dong-woo reaches the headquarters to locate Ye-seo. Meanwhile, drug smuggler K’s goons take Gil-ho to headquarters but the tranquiliser loses its effect and he beats the goons and escapes. Soon, Dong-woo and Gil-ho cross paths and the former seeks Gil-ho’s help in saving his daughter and bringing down club HYENA — the main culprit behind Gangnam’s drug smuggling operation.
Elsewhere, Tak Ju-il, along with other assemblymen gather for a meeting with K. The latter brings in a few female escorts including Ye-seo on whom he will test his new drug Neon. Dong-woo and Gil-ho locate the meeting venue but K’s goons attack them. Gil-ho then takes charge and fights the goons, while Dong-woo looks for his daughter. He soon finds her having a seizure due to Choi injecting Neon into her body. However, Seo-jin comes to their rescue and injects Ye-seo with the antidote, thus saving her.
Later, a guilt-ridden Seo-jin exposes all the assemblymen involved in the drug smuggling case, including herself.
What happens to Dong-woo and Gil-ho after the drug racket is busted?
After busting the Gangnam drug racket, Dong-woo visits Jae-hee’s grave with Ye-seo. Following this, Dong-woo is back to solving yet another case at a bar. There he learns that the place has already been turned upside down and a box full of drugs has been burned to ashes. He speculates it to be the doing of Gil-ho and later finds him limping through the street with his baseball bat.
Before the credits roll, Gil-ho looks back at Dong-woo with a bleak smile. Dong-woo gets teary but nods in acknowledgement. Once the duo silently bid each other goodbye from afar, Dong-woo gets in his car and asks his colleague to continue with their investigation of other possible drug cartels in Gangnam.
