SANDAKAN: Deputy Chief Minister cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam asked the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) to deal with the garbage problem in Kampung Sim-Sim here.
He said this after visiting the water village to see first-hand the garbage problem that the residents have been facing for a long time.
“This garbage problem has been existent for a long time. Garbage is carried by sea currents and strewn all over or piled up,” he said, adding he had a discussion on how to deal with the problem with MPS President Henry Idol and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (KKTP), Datuk Dr Jamili Nais.
Joachim said Sim-Sim has the potential to attract tourists to enjoy fresh seafood.
“If the garbage problem is not curbed, it would give an unpleasant image to the visitors,” he added.
