The police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons for setting fire to a garbage heap near Thapar Colony Park in Yamunanagar during sanitation workers’ strike.

The action has been taken on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad. A complaint was lodged by sanitation inspector Pradeep Dahiya.

After receiving information that a garbage heap had been set on fire by some unidentified persons, a team of the MC reached the spot. After the fire brigade put out the flames, the area was cleaned.

Due to the strike by the sanitation workers, garbage had piled up everywhere in twin cities Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. The strike was called off on May 14 after an agreement was reached on the protesters’ demands.

Sanitation Inspector Pradeep Dahiya, who filed a complaint with the City police station, said setting fire to garbage violated NGT orders.

SHO Narender Singh Rana said a case had been registered against unidentified persons. Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad has appealed to people to hand over garbage to the MC’s door-to-door collection vehicles only.
