THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Tuesday that the driver involved in the viral "gas-and-run" incident over the weekend has turned himself over to the city police.
Identified as "Jefferson," 27, of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, he showed up Monday night at the La Loma Police Station, accompanied by family members, QCPD director BGen. Randy Glenn Silvio said.
The suspect’s surrender came after efforts by QCPD’s Special Investigation Team, which conducted a thorough probe including forward and backward CCTV (closed-circuit television) tracking and coordination with concerned agencies, Silvio said.
These efforts led to the identification of the vehicle and the person involved in the incident, which happened a few days ago at a gas station in Balintawak, where Jefferson requested a full tank of diesel worth P5,196, the QCPD chief added.
To the shock of the pump attendant, who tried to catch him up but in vain, the suspect suddenly sped off without settling the fuel bill.
The QCPD said it would pursue the filing of an estafa complaint before the City Prosecutor’s Office against the suspect, who already apologized to the gas station management as he expressed remorse, citing high gasoline costs and low earnings.
