A gas explosion in a Tver apartment block killed one person, with authorities clarifying the blast was not caused by Ukrainian drone debris as initially suspected.

TVER: A gas explosion in an apartment block killed one person in the western Russian city of Tver early on Tuesday.

Regional governor Vitaly Korolev said the preliminary conclusion of experts was that the cause was a household gas explosion.

He added that it was initially mistaken for falling drone debris, as air defence measures were active in the region at the time.

Russia’s defence ministry said Ukrainian drones were downed overnight in about 20 different regions, including six over Tver.

Household fires and gas incidents are not uncommon across Russia.

Last month, Ukrainian drone debris triggered a fire in a Tver apartment block, wounding seven people.
