EIGHTY-five residents affected by the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights were allowed to return home today, said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said this was after authorities inspected the safety of the affected houses before permitting the families to return.
"Initially, 115 residents were cleared to return to their homes, but only 85 had their water and electricity supply restored.
"A total 87 houses and premises were completely destroyed beyond repair, while 148 others were badly damaged and require repairs," he said.
For those whose homes were a total loss, he said the state government is in discussions with Petronas Gas Bhd to find more comfortable temporary housing.
He also said that investigations into the source of the gas pipeline leak began yesterday.
He said the public will be updated twice daily on the progress of the investigations.
“One press conference will cover the technical aspects of the investigation, while the other, conducted by the police, will focus on any potential negligence or criminality,” he said.
Amirudin also announced the setting up of Tabung Prihatin to assist victims of the gas pipeline explosion.
He said volunteers have come forward to provide aid in various forms, including financial assistance, essential goods, transportation, and even credit loans for those who may need them.
"We have set up counters at the two PPS to help affected residents with the process of recovering their important documents and lodging reports.
"Prasarana has also provided transportation services for victims to travel between their affected homes and the PPS, in case they wish to recover their personal belongings.
"Companies providing credit loans and cars, namely Aeon, Carsome and Chery, have also agreed to offer loans and cars to those affected should they require financial assistance during these challenging times," he added. - April 2, 2025
