Mirzan and Tan Sri Mokhzani, two sons of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, confirmed that they had not yet submitted the asset declaration sought by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to the Malaysia Gazette, both stated that it was difficult to give information over the previous 43 years as required by the inquiry committee.

"This is especially true when we are not given any specific information regarding the investigation other than our father. The task of collecting information for 43 years is impossible, and we ask for patience and understanding to meet MACC's request," the two stated in a joint statement released by their lawyer, Muhammad Nizamuddin Abdul Hamid.

The one-page reply was in response to MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki's remark that they had failed to submit the requested asset declaration.

Azam was quoted as adding that last month, his party served Mirzan and Mohkzani with a notice under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009.

Meanwhile, Mokhzani and Mirzan stated that all relevant parties should be restricted from commenting on the inquiry against them.

"I would like to clarify that the MACC has given us 30 days to provide a list of assets since 1981, when our father, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, became Prime Minister. We are in the process of providing information to relevant parties to help and advise us in the process," the two men added.

According to Astro Awani, Azam Baki stated recently that the MACC is still waiting for the declaration notice from the two businessmen in question, despite having submitted the notice to each of them last month under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009.

"If they don't make a declaration within the specified period, they can be accused of failing to declare property," said Azam Baki.
