Gatwick airport water supply returns after passengers go hours without toilets

  • Gatwick Airport experienced a significant water supply issue on Sunday, leading to the closure of most toilets and many food and beverage outlets across both terminals.
  • The problem, caused by an issue at the Bough Beech Water Treatment Works, resulted in taps either not running or having very low pressure.
  • Airport staff distributed bottled water to travellers, and additional personnel were deployed to manage the situation and minimise disruption.
  • Despite the widespread inconvenience, all flights at Gatwick Airport continued to depart as scheduled throughout the incident.
  • By Sunday evening, water supply had been largely restored, with most toilets reopened and food and beverage outlets expected to be fully operational by Monday morning.
