In the heart of Palestine, amidst the relentless struggle for survival, Gaza endures a suffering that has become painfully commonplace. For seventeen long years, the enclave has languished under an unyielding Israeli blockade, shackled by a 56-year occupation. Routine incursions by the Israeli military have left the landscape scarred, with countless lives lost and entire communities reduced to rubble.
In this bleak reality, a mere handful of hours of electricity is considered a luxury, and hospitals stand as last resorts, with a meager 1.4 beds available for every thousand residents. Families grapple with starvation, vital medicines dwindle, and the prospects for graduates dim, while the majority cling to survival through aid.
Yet, this harrowing 'normalcy' has been met with an unforgivable global apathy. The silent cries of Gaza have served as a grim backdrop to the broader political stage, barely eliciting a passing mention, until a fateful day in October.
On that day, when Israeli civilians met a tragic fate, the world awakened. Suddenly, the plight of historic Palestine took center stage. The blood spilled was scrutinized, discussed, and condemned. The world, which had once turned a blind eye to Gaza's daily horrors, was now roused and engaged.
Since October 7th, over 12,000 tons of explosives have rained down on the Gaza Strip, equivalent to a staggering 33 tons for every square kilometer. The toll on human life is devastating, with over 6,000 Palestinians, including over 2,300 children, lost to the violence. Shockingly, more than 1,500 individuals remain trapped beneath the ruins, their cries for help muffled by the absence of functioning hospitals.
Residential blocks, including the author's own home, have been reduced to rubble, mirroring the fate of countless others. A staggering 1.4 million Gazans have been uprooted from their homes, their lives torn asunder. Gaza's very existence is under threat, yet the global powers remain eerily silent, offering no respite.
In the midst of this unfathomable tragedy, the world wrestles with a chilling question: How does one obliterate Gaza from the map? It is a query that reverberates across the globe, as the international community grapples with the unimaginable. The world watches, paralyzed by indecision, while Gaza's agony continues unabated.
