Against the backdrop of a dispute between Warsaw and Kiev, international donors will meet in Gdańsk from Thursday to discuss the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be represented by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
The Polish co-host is Prime Minister Donald Tusk. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will also be travelling to Gdańsk.
As in previous years, the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) will focus on how to repair the ongoing war damage to Ukraine's infrastructure and what the future reconstruction should look like.
Russia has repeatedly bombed Ukraine's power stations and energy networks. Last winter, millions of people in the capital, Kiev, were without heating and had barely any electricity for weeks. Many residential buildings and businesses across Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed.
200 contracts expected for Ukraine's reconstruction
Speaking ahead of the two-day conference in Gdańsk, Tusk mentioned 200 contracts worth billions of euros for the reconstruction. The liberal prime minister is endeavouring to defuse the dispute with Ukraine, whilst Poland's right-wing conservative President Karol Nawrocki has exacerbated it by stripping Zelensky of a high Polish honour.
However, it was Zelensky who triggered the dispute, which has been smouldering for weeks. He named an army unit after Ukrainian underground fighters from World War II.
But these fighters were also responsible for the massacres of tens of thousands of Poles and Jews in what is now western Ukraine, and Zelensky's move provoked widespread outrage in Poland.
