GE15: 10,000 free laptops, tablets among five pledges for Gombak — Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat in the ongoing 15th general election (GE15) Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has promised five things for the constituency, including the distribution of 10,000 laptops and tablets for educational and entrepreneurial purposes.

He said the initiative is not new, and is aimed at distributing 2,000 gadgets every year over the span of five years.

“This initiative will enable the children of Gombak to enjoy better living, and to take part in online lessons.

“We also promise to overcome issues involving students who were left out of online lessons during the movement control order, by empowering the free tuition programme.

“We will expand the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme as part of our efforts to provide additional education to dropout students, so they will be able to catch up,” Amirudin said at a press conference, earlier today.

Dubbed ‘Deklarasi Gombak Bermaruah, Lima Tekad untuk Lima Tahun’, he said the declaration encompasses five main themes centring on Gombak’s local economy, affordable homes, sustainable infrastructure, education and dignified jobs, as well as an equitable role of the state.

He said the declaration also takes into account the needs of youths, including job opportunities, skills development, and proper education.

“We formulated this declaration after meeting with youth groups, as well as from the findings obtained from various types of research tabled by the state executive councillor for youth.

“The findings have guided us in formulating these proposals and offers,” Amirudin added.

Other offers included in the ‘Deklarasi Gombak Bermaruah, Lima Tekad untuk Lima Tahun’ are as follows:

1. Ekonomi Tempatan Nadi Gombak (Gombak’s Local Economic Pulse)

  • To empower women as the backbone of the constituency’s economy by providing them with training in additional skills, so they can actively participate in economic activities and thus generate household income.
  • To develop rest-and-service areas equipped with various facilities including WiFi, charging ports, a relaxation area and, prayer rooms for the use of e-hailing riders or drivers through a public-private-community partnership.
  • To encourage the participation of more local technological agricultural entrepreneurs’ in urban farming, as part of efforts to ensure food security.

2. Rumah Mampu Milik Gombak (Gombak Affordable Homes)

  • To ensure 1,660 units of Pangsapuri Bayu Residensi @ Seri Temenggung are equipped with complete facilities.
  • To work on a solution concerning strata ownership for Gombak residents, especially in Hulu Kelang, particularly in the AU1 and AU2 areas, as well as nearby areas.

3. Infastruktur Mampan, Selesa, dan Berdaya Tahan (Sustainable, Comfortable, and Lasting Infrastructure)

  • To develop a Multipurpose Sports Complex in a quest towards making Gombak the Hub for Youths.
    To develop a Senior Citizens Complex through public and private partnerships, equipped with recreational facilities for the elderly and for children.
  • To develop and coordinate the Gombak Community Fund in collaboration with public and private sectors, that will be used to strengthen the local infrastructure.
  • To upgrade the public medical clinics’ (Klinik Kesihatan) facilities.

4. Pendidikan dan Pekerjaan Bermaruah, Kunci Kepada Taraf Hidup Lebih Berkualiti (Honourable Education and Jobs, the Key To More Quality Living)

  • To attract more local and international investors via various efforts from the Federal government, and to reduce unemployment among young people in Gombak.
  • To make Gombak Selangor’s education hub, by establishing technical skills training programmes in collaboration with the Selangor Technical Development Center and Federal government agencies.

5. Peranan Saksama Negeri Dalam Memajukan Negara Tercinta (Equitable Role For the State In Contributing to National Development)

  • The state government should be given a more equitable role in Malaysia’s advancement, especially in the health, education, public transport and tax distribution sectors.
