GE15: after UKM, now UiTM stops Fahmi Reza’s democracy forum

KUALA LUMPUR – Activist and graphic artist Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin was today barred from holding a forum on democracy at Universiti Teknologi Mara’s Shah Alam campus amid chants of protest from students.

Fahmi was informed by auxiliary police that he could not continue with the class.

This is the second time his Kelas Demokrasi forum has been stopped after Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia did the same on its campus yesterday.

In a short clip on Twitter, Fahmi was heard telling between 250 and 300 students that he had been told to stop the session.

“They told students to disperse,” Fahmi said on Twitter.

The crowd was heard booing the authorities following the order to disperse.

In another tweet, Fahmi said the session would continue at a new location off-campus.

It is learnt that the class resumed later at a nearby restaurant.

Fahmi has lately been gaining attention for his Kelas Demokrasi forum where he apparently shares knowledge on democracy for students to make informed decisions when voting.

There has been plenty of focus on younger voters in the coming general election since the minimum voting age was lowered to 18. – The Vibes, November 11, 2022
