KUALA LUMPUR – Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that he will quit his posts in Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) if the coalition fails to win the 15th general election.
He told the Wanita BN convention today that GE15 has to be BN’s utmost priority as it may not get another chance to regain federal power.
It will also be an election unlike any other for BN because it has to face two coalitions, Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional, at the same time, he added.
“This is the last battle. It’s do or die. If we want to live, win GE15. If not, I will quit.
“If we lose, whoever wants the deputy president’s post can have it. I will give it up,” Mohamad, who is also BN deputy chairman and coalition elections director, was quoted as saying at the convention by Utusan Malaysia.
He said that if BN lost, it would be better to hand over the coalition to others.
“But as long as we are facing GE15, my priority and commitment as elections director is to ensure we win.
“If we lose, it will be very difficult to rise again. This is our last chance to retake Putrajaya,” he said.
Mohamad said that while many were confident about BN’s chances following its strong victories in the Melaka and Johor elections, GE15 must be thought of as the last few metres of the race.
