GE15: humbled BN takes polls results as 'signal', ready to help with stable govt, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) will put aside previous differences and be ready to ensure that a stable government is formed, its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said following the coalition’s worse than expected performance in the 15th general election (GE15).

In a statement, he said BN respects the people’s vote in the polls, which the coalition takes as a “signal”.

“Nevertheless, BN remains committed to continue its contributions towards ensuring a stable government and as such we are ready to set aside our past differences,” Zahid said.

He added that BN is ready to be a “bridge” between Sabah and Sarawak with states in the peninsula.

BN’s current tally as of 2am is 16 seats, according to the Election Commission.

However, votes for only 112 seats out of 220 have been counted.

Unofficially, BN’s tally, according to several news portals, is slightly higher at between 20 to 27 seats.

Nevertheless, its performance is far worse than expected, as BN had played up its chances of victory, citing its wins in the Melaka and Johor state elections. – The Vibes, November 20, 2022
