KUALA LANGAT – Barisan Nasional (BN) could learn a thing or two from Perikatan Nasional (PN) on how to properly govern the country if it could just take a temporary backseat and allow the latter to rise to federal power.

Taking a jab at the Umno-led coalition, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang pointed out PN has proven to offer a stable administration that is free from corruption, something that BN cannot claim to possess.

He said this is demonstrated through its 17 months in Putrajaya under the stewardship of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as well as going by the performances of states that are ruled by PAS.

“We ask that BN take a rest first. Let PN govern (the country), give us the opportunity for one term, and watch how we do it. We have proven through our slogan that we are clean and stable.

“The states that we lead – Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah – are clean of any wrongdoings. We have ruled Kelantan (under two separate periods) and there are no corruption cases or any misconduct.

“We governed Terengganu three times and Kedah twice, no wrongdoings. PN was also in power for two years, with no wrongdoings. We have proven it,” he said in his speech during a PN ceramah, here, last night.

Hadi said in comparison, BN and Umno are bogged down in murky water, referring to the court cases involving several of its top leaders.

He added that this is also why PAS had decided to abandon any possibility of cooperation with Umno ahead of the election under the Muafakat Nasional (MN) banner, and instead opted for an alliance with Bersatu under the PN flag.

“The reason we can’t be with MN is that they are still raw, uncooked. We want to be with PN, which is riper.”

Earlier in his speech, Hadi also revealed a purported meeting held between him and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad prior to the 14th general election, when the latter supposedly proposed cooperation to take down BN.

The leader of the Islamist party claimed that Mahathir, who was then heading Bersatu, had suggested that PAS come on board the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

“We said we can’t do it, because we have had the experience of working with PKR and DAP,” he said.

Going into further detail, Hadi said although DAP claims to be a socialist party that treats every citizen equally, it had portrayed elements of chauvinism and racial extremism.

In the case of PKR, Hadi criticised the party for condoning and promoting street demonstrations and claimed that the political outfit consists of “various characters”, including LGBTs (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender).

“Amanah, on the other hand, took a portion of PAS members to join them. As such, we said we can’t accept (these parties), and so we didn’t follow them,” he said. – The Vibes, November 10, 2022
