GE15: Tok Mat bins claims of overspending on Rembau campaign

SENAWANG – Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Rembau candidate Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has denied spending more than RM200,000 on campaign materials, billboards, and flags – exceeding the limits set by the law.

He said the candidate posters and BN flags were put up by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and corporate bodies who support his campaign.

“There are many people who want to help put up flags and billboards, and even donate mineral water bottles. I have so far only spent on buying food for those who are helping in my operations centre.

“The allegations show that my opponents have no real talking points,” he told reporters when met at the Taman Tuanku Jaafar night market here today.

When asked about Zahid’s candidacy being detrimental to Umno, Mohamad refuted the notion as his party president will have his day in court.

“It is not a detriment for Umno as Zahid has yet to be found guilty. If he was found guilty, Umno leadership would have asked him to not contest.”

Mohamad also took the opportunity to slam rivals Pakatan Harapan (PH), saying that the coalition dropped more court cases involving its leaders, such as DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng during its administration.

“During Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s time, Najib went to jail and Zahid’s case was ongoing. When the campaign is over, Zahid will be back in court to face his charges.”
