It is a sad day in Malaysia when after the General Elections 15, we are not able to have a government from a political party with a simple majority.
The mess of political instability started after the rakyat's mandate was toppled when the Pakatan Harapan PM informed the Agong that his government and him, as PM, have resigned in February 2020.
That PM was Mahathir Mohamad who started the instability in the country. He collapsed the PH government. This guy has no conscience but an ego incomparable. (I'm very pleased Mahathir lost in the GE15 and even lost his deposit.)
There were 3 PMs during this 14th Parliamentary term. It caused bigger problems than the 22 months of PH rule. This was because there was no interest in governance because this PM from Bersatu brought in political frogs for support thus creating the biggest government Cabinet of 70+ ministers, not counting special envoys of ministerial level and advisors.
PM Mahiaddin lost support and Ismail Sabri was appointed PM and retained the large Cabinet. Nothing happened under PM Ismail except the Anti-hopping Act and Under 18 voting rights. PM Ismail was challenged to dissolve Parliament by his master, Zahid Hamidi, the UMNO President and he, PM Ismail, did as he was told.
The GE15 was held during the monsoon season on November 19, 2022. It was a debacle. Candidates chosen by UMNO was a big question. In UMNO especially the President chose his men and left out winnable candidates. There was an internal revolt of the party regarding nominee candidates.
Initially the GE15 was between the BN coalition and the PH coalition. The PN coalition was not expected to be much of a problem. The PN coalition included Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan. But UMNO's choice of candidates became a big issue.
Perikatan National greatly benefitted from the Zahid's choice of his men as UMNO candidates. UMNO's protest votes went to PN, a coalition very much alike the BN. The surge of PN's victory was the protest votes and they obtained the second highest of victorious MPs behind PH. PH lost many good politicians including Nurul Izzah, Dr Mujahid Rawa, Khalid Samad etc. One thing to learn from this past election is any big crowd at political campaign rallies do not translate into electoral support.
This resulted in the race and capacity to become the 10th PM.
The question to ask Malaysia who qualifies to be PM. Is the Premiership just a seat for power that it brings untold grip of the country or is the seat of the PM is to cure a sick nation in crisis of the devaluation of the ringgit, the lack FDIs to support a weak economy, the rising costs of living, the racial and religious differences and the plight of poor citizens.
Mahiaddin is unable to do what's required of the country with his philosophy without any specific plans for the rakyat. Anwar would be able to try to cure this sick nation with his very own personal recognition around the world. It's not about power that the seat of the PM brings but the proposed cure of the sick nation, our beloved Malaysia. Anwar could bring in the foreign investments based on his personal relationship with the friends he has made around the world.
The ideal coalition of coalitions is Pakatan Harapan, the GPS of Sarawak and the GRS of Sabah. Peninsula Malaya could learn a thing or two about racial and religious harmony in the both the East Malaysia states.
The Agong must give priority to the Pakatan Harapan that obtained the highest number of MPs during the election. If PH or Anwar Ibrahim is unable to get the majority, the Agong should his exercise His Majesty's discretion to appoint any leader who he thinks would have the confidence of the Dewan Rakyat.
