Geely has just showed their 2.25 megawatt charging system for their 12C battery tech.

Geely Auto Group has raised the stakes in the global electric vehicle infrastructure race by unveiling its next-generation Smart Charging system, headlined by a fifth-generation charging station capable of delivering up to 2.25 megawatts (2,250 kW) of peak power output.

Engineered to match the capabilities of its cutting-edge 12C battery technology, the ultra-high-power setup allows compatible passenger electric vehicles to charge from 10% to 70% state of charge in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

Under standard operating temperatures, the same battery architecture can reach a 97% charge in 8 minutes and 40 seconds, narrowing the refueling time gap between electric vehicles and traditional petrol combustion cars to mere minutes.

Real-World Validation with Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001

Geely demonstrated the physical capability of its new high-power charging platform using production-ready testbeds, specifically the Lynk & Co 10 performance sedan and the Zeekr 001 shooting brake.

Independent validation by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) recorded a sustained peak charging input of approximately 1.09 megawatts (1,093 kW) drawn directly by the Lynk & Co 10 test vehicle.

While the 2.25MW terminal rating provides ample overhead to supply peak current demands across multiple high-voltage vehicles simultaneously, today’s 800V- and 900V-class production battery packs can already ingest more than 1,400 amperes of current at the plug.

AI-Predicted Thermal Control and Full-Chain Liquid Cooling

Delivering megawatt-level energy transfer safely requires thermal stabilization. To manage heat dissipation across the vehicle and charging terminal, Geely integrated its proprietary Xingrui PowerMind smart energy artificial intelligence model.

  • Predictive AI Management: The algorithm forecasts internal battery cell temperature fluctuations up to 30 seconds in advance, dynamically modulating current flow before thermal spikes occur rather than reacting after temperatures rise.
  • Tight Temperature Window: The system maintains an average operating battery temperature below 55°C, ensuring peak internal temperatures never exceed 65°C even during maximum current flow.
  • End-to-End Liquid Cooling: Geely has implemented a five-point active liquid-cooling loop running continuously through the grid storage buffer, charging station dispenser, high-current cable, vehicle inlet port, and the onboard battery pack casing.

Pulse Restoration Technology Extends Battery Life by 20%

To counter the accelerated cell degradation traditionally caused by high-power DC fast replenishment, Geely introduced dedicated lithium-ion pulse restoration technology.

The system emits micro-pulse electrical currents during charging cycles to reactivate and disperse lithium ions that gather at the negative electrodes under extreme current loads.

By actively mitigating lithium plating and reversing micro-structural stress, Geely claims the pulse restoration system can extend long-term battery cycle life by up to 20%, pairing extreme charging speed with everyday durability.

Escalating China’s Megawatt-Class Infrastructure Race

Geely’s Smart Charging announcement accelerates an aggressive infrastructure battle among China’s leading electric vehicle manufacturers.

BYD initiated the megawatt transition in March 2025 with its 1,000-volt Super e-Platform, followed by its second-generation Blade Battery and 1.5MW Flash Charging network in March 2026, which promised 10% to 70% replenishment in five minutes. While XPeng established early high-speed benchmarks with 5C architecture on the G9, Geely’s 2.25MW and 12C deployment represents the highest published charging output to date.

To anchor its technology in real-world infrastructure, Geely is targeting the nationwide deployment of more than 100,000 charging connectors across China by the end of 2027, with over half of the network slated to incorporate its AI-governed Smart Charging technology.
