I AM writing in my capacity as president of the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. to formally request an erratum regarding the article titled “Socoteco II power firm’s crisis leads to a decade-long upgrade delay,” published in the Regions section of The Manila Times on Jan. 5, 2026. (https://www.manilatimes.net/2026/01/05/regions/scotabato-powerfirms-management-crisis-leads-to-a-decade-long-upgrade-delay/2252407).

The article incorrectly attributes several statements to me. Specifically, it cites a purported study claiming that the South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative Inc. (Socoteco II) requires an investment of P2 billion annually over the next five years — amounting to a total of P10 billion — for the rehabilitation, modernization, and operation of its distribution system.

I wish to clarify the following for the record:

– I did not make these statements, nor did I provide or authorize the release of any such study.

– The claim regarding a P10-billion rehabilitation requirement is incorrect. I did not make any such statement.

– My official position regarding Socoteco II focuses solely on the need for greater transparency.

The chamber values its relationship with the press and respects the role of The Manila Times in providing public information. However, given the impact of these inaccuracies, I trust that your publication will issue a correction promptly to ensure responsible and accurate reporting. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Miguel Rene A. Dominguez

President

General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.
