For everything that matters in tech

The Gardens Mall in Mid Valley City will soon offer Electric Vehicle charging at its basement car park. Charge point operators Gentari and JomCharge have deployed a total of three chargers which include one DC fast charger and two AC chargers at Level P2 (Isetan side) at The Gardens Mall.

At the time of writing, the chargers have been installed but they are not available yet. The DC fast charging unit is an ABB Terra 54 unit which is capable of delivering up to 50kW of DC fast charging. This unit has a total of three nozzles which include AC Type-2, CCS2 as well as CHAdeMO. The other two chargers are ABB Terra AC wall box that comes with their own Type-2 cable.

So far, this EV charging location is still not listed on the JomCharge and Setel apps yet, and we still don’t know its pricing details. Hopefully, the DC charger will be using kWh-based pricing instead of time.

If you need to charge an EV around Mid Valley Megamall, ChargEV has installed AC chargers at Menara Southpoint. There are a total of three 11kW AC chargers located near pillar S2 13 at Level P1.

These AC chargers are priced at RM0.80 per kWh which is the same price as the AC chargers located at Berjaya Times Square and Eco Ardence EV charging hub. If your EV can support 11kW AC charging, you can get about 22kWh in two hours which would cost you RM17.60.

With more EVs hitting the road, it makes more sense to deploy more EV chargers at popular destinations such as shopping malls and offices. In Pavilion KL, we also spotted Shell Recharge setting up EV charging points next to the Tesla Supercharger.
