Gentari has achieved a new milestone as it has deployed over 200 EV charge points across Malaysia. The green energy company under Petronas aims to have 400 charge points by the end of this year to support the government’s target of having 10,000 charge points nationwide by 2025.

Gentari has just announced four new EV charging locations which include a new DC charging stop at Petronas Genting Sempah on LPT and three AC charging sites in Kuala Lumpur namely Menara Naza, Lotus’s Ampang in Pandan Indah and Perdana Hotel.

The Petronas Genting Sempah location gets a 24kW DC charger which has CCS2 and CHAdeMO connectors. The DC charger is priced at RM0.50 per minute.

The Menara Naza (Naza Tower) location consists of 3x 7kW AC Chargers priced at RM0.10 per minute (RM6/hour) located at B1 bay 54,55 and 56. There’s also 1x 22kW AC charger priced at RM0.20 per minute (RM12/hour) located at the outdoor carpark beside Illy Coffee.

Over at Lotus’s Ampang, Gentari has deployed two 11kW AC charge points priced at RM0.10 per minute (RM6/hour). Meanwhile, Perdana Hotel KL (B1 carpark) at Lorong Binjai also gets three 11kW AC charge points which are also priced at RM0.10 per minute (RM6/hour).

A few days ago, Gentari and PLUS announced Malaysia’s first modular EV charging station that’s assisted by solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The solution enables quick deployment of DC fast chargers in locations with power constraints. Its first location at Behrang Layby (Northbound) on the North-South Highway comes with a 300kWh BESS which can be trickle-charged by solar and from the grid. The site has two Kempower DC Chargers (200kW and 100kW) that can charge four EVs at the same time.

Gentari shared that it plans to deploy a similar setup at Behrang Layby (Southbound) as well as Senawang Layby (Northbound and Southbound). They also proposed three more locations at Ajil (Northbound and Southbound), and Perasing Rest and Service Area (R&R) sites, all on Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2) in Terengganu.

In addition, Gentari will also upgrade existing AC charge points at Petronas stations along PLUS R&R to faster DC chargers. They have recently deployed a 180kW DC charger at Petronas Juru Layby (Northbound) and we also spotted a new EV charging site with Kempower satellite units at Petronas Ulu Bernam (Southbound).
