New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): Citing the "normalisation" of the geopolitical situation, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved the withdrawal of the Work from Home (WFH) arrangement on Wednesdays and Saturdays for government employees, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said on Thursday.
A formal order regarding the withdrawal of the WFH facility is expected to be issued today.
"Now that the geopolitical situation has practically normalised, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved withdrawal of Work from Home on Wednesdays & Saturdays. The order will be issued today," the Delhi CMO stated.
Along with the change in the WFH policy, the Delhi government has also revised the office timings for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
As per the revised schedule, the timings for GNCTD offices will now be from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
Meanwhile, the timings for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will remain the same, functioning from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
The decision marks a rollback of the sweeping austerity and fuel-saving measures implemented earlier by the Delhi government.
Earlier in May, CM Rekha Gupta had introduced a series of administrative initiatives aimed at reducing pollution, easing traffic congestion, and cutting fuel consumption following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to support economic resilience amid global uncertainties linked to the West Asia conflict.
Under the previous mandate, the government had implemented two days of work-from-home each week and a "Metro Monday" initiative, where ministers and senior officials were encouraged to use public transport. The government had also announced a one-year freeze on all official foreign visits for ministers and officers and a six-month ban on the purchase of new petrol, diesel, CNG, or hybrid vehicles for the Delhi government.
The Chief Minister had also previously urged citizens to observe a weekly "No Vehicle Day" and encouraged institutions to maximise online hearings and lectures to reduce transport needs. With the situation now deemed stable, the government has moved to restore regular office operations while maintaining the staggered timing format to manage city traffic. (ANI)
