Police confirmed three deaths and one injured child following a three-vehicle crash on the Gerik-Jeli Highway near Tasik Banding, Gerik

IPOH: Police have confirmed the identities of four people, including a child, involved in a fatal accident at Kilometre 38.5 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, yesterday.

Gerik district police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman identified the three victims killed in the crash as Al Zubair Deraman, 31, Tuan Shazrin Tuan Mud, 40, and Mohamad Hafiz Daniel Nik Hairey, 19, in a brief response to Bernama.

However, the identity of the girl has yet to be confirmed, while the injured victim is identified as nine-year-old Mohammad Shiraz Hammani Abdul Fattah.

He also confirmed that all the victims were from Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

The crash reportedly occurred after a Perodua Axia lost control and collided with a lorry.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the accident, which occurred at about 1.30 pm today, involved three vehicles: a Hino lorry, a Proton Persona and a Perodua Axia.

He said the Perodua Axia was driven by a 19-year-old man and carried four passengers, a 31-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and two children, as it travelled from Gerik towards Jeli, Kelantan.
