NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is attending the German Cabinet's regular weekly session on Wednesday morning as a guest, hours before the coalition committee convenes for talks on its reform package.

The Cabinet meeting is taking place at the Defence Ministry.

Rutte, a former Dutch prime minister, is being received by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, with the three politicians set to address the press afterwards.

The talks are expected to focus on security policy and discussions ahead of next week's NATO summit in Ankara.

Cabinet members also plan to adopt several pieces of draft legislation relating to the Bundeswehr, Germany's armed forces, including a bill to strengthen the military reserve.
