A German court is due to rule on Wednesday on whether snack maker Mondelez misled consumers by slimming down Milka chocolate bars from 100 grams to 90 grams while keeping the packaging almost unchanged.
The Bremen Regional Court is expected to announce its decision three weeks after a hearing in the case.
The lawsuit was filed by the Hamburg consumer protection agency, which accuses Mondelez of misleading customers. It argues that the reduced weight is barely noticeable because the new bar is only 1 millimetre thinner and the packaging design is almost identical.
Milka is one of Europe's best-known chocolate brands. US-based snack maker Mondelez, which owns Milka and has its German headquarters in the northern city of Bremen, rejects the allegation. The company says the weight is clearly visible on the packaging.
